If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a million times: SEO helps you improve your Google rankings. And who doesn’t want that?! But what exactly is SEO? And what can you do to improve it?

SEO stands for search engine optimization, which is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results. Here are some of our top tips for building search engine-friendly websites in 2018:

Content + Context = 🏆

Back in the day, content was king. Google would search your page to see how many times you used a specific keyword, and if your keyword appeared in your page title, URL, and description, then you would be good to go. Including keywords on your website is still important, but that’s not the only factor Google considers for SEO. They also look at context; the more your pages cover an entire topic in-depth, the higher you’ll rank in search engine results.

Writing blog posts is an easy way to add SEO value to your website. Use words and phrases that mean something to your consumers. Locally focused keywords, like names of the local city, the neighborhood, points of interest, and street names can all make it easier for potential visitors to find you on search engines. And always use your own words. If Google thinks you’re posting duplicate content, your SEO takes a big hit—so make sure you’re writing original content.

Mobile comes first 🥇

Having a mobile website is more important than ever before. Last year Google announced that they’re making the switch over to a “mobile-first index”. This means that Google considers the mobile version of your agent website to be the “real” version. Here at Zap, we understand the importance of mobile, which is why we make your agent website content optimized for both desktop and mobile.

Don’t be camera shy 🎥

In today’s fast-paced digital world, videos are the key to smart content marketing. Your agent video is an awesome opportunity for you to show off your personality, experience, and skills—while at the same time proving your value to Google and improving your SEO.  If you’ve already got an agent introduction video that you want to feature on your Zap site, get instructions on how to upload it here!

Get social ❤️

If you’re already on social media and your followers don’t know that you have a website, it’s time to start spreading the news. Think of all of your social media followers combined—even if just a small portion of them sign up on your website, that could mean a potentially significant increase in traffic for you. Remember: Sharing relevant content on social media is great—but linking that content back to your Zap website is even better, both for your customers and for your SEO.

Share unique insight 💬

Unique content doesn’t just make you stand out to consumers—it makes search engines wake up and pay attention to you, too. With Property Insights and Local Insights in Zap, you can share your perspective on properties you’ve seen, and local cities and neighborhoods you cover. When consumers see your insights, you become  more than just a face on their screen—they gain relevant information they can use to decide whether a location or home is right for them.

Links. Links. Links.  🔗

SEO is still very much about link-building, which is why you need to share your agent website at every chance you get. Update your contact info in all of the places you’re social: Facebook, Yelp, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube. The more paths to your website, the better. You can also add your website link to your email signature to further increase traffic.
